Notes From the Winemaker - April 10th, 2012

With Easter just behind us and our vineyard bursting into bloom, I write with real delight to invite you to attend this coming weekend's Annual Spring Barrel Tasting at Barboursville, Saturday the 14th and Sunday the 15th. If you had to miss our Barrel Tastings last Spring or last Fall, please be aware that this is a much-enhanced celebration of our cellar selections, taking place throughout our Piemonte Arcades overlooking the vineyards, the Barbour Mansion, and the Blue Ridge. Hamilton's Restaurant's beloved former chef and now the region's most esteemed producer of artisan farmstead cheeses, Gail Hobbes-Page of Caromont Farm, will be on hand to present a gorgeous array of cheeses for tasting and purchase, and Chef Melissa Close-Hart will be presenting very special light fare from the award-winning kitchen of our Palladio Restaurant.

Our cellar selections will be decanted into fine dining crystal, to allow the same evaluation and appreciation you would give them at home. But, most importantly, I am happy to be offering the deepest and broadest list of vintages for tasting and purchase that we have ever presented at a single tasting, allowing for a unique experience in comparing leading vintages from the past. I present the list of these selections, in case you should have to miss the Tasting. For your benefit, I have authorized the Tasting Room to accept your purchase by telephone through Friday, April 20th, to enhance your opportunity to secure the wines you want the most. Arrangements can be made at the same time, for shipping via UPS to you anywhere in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, DC or other authorized States, with normal shipping and handling charges, and subject to applicable sales taxes. Just call (540) 832-3824 to secure your favorites, and remember, we ship free in Virginia with a minimum purchase of any 12 bottles, including past and current vintages.

Take a glance at the wine list now, then, and you will see the enormous range of tasting you can expect to enjoy next weekend. We certainly hope you can come, to celebrate Springtime's happiest weekend at our vineyards. I pass along a very perceptive and kindly current article from the Tidewater, on one couple's happy recent visit to Barboursville, as well as a fun and informal report of one enthusiast's satisfying dinner out with us in Richmond, at Pasture Restaurant this past month. I remember both of these occasions with personal delight, and I hope to be able to welcome you to similar pleasures at our Barrel Tasting Weekend, the 14th or the 15th.

Warmest best wishes of Spring to you and your family,
