Notes From the Winemaker - May 23rd, 2011
May 11, 2011
I'm on the road so much in these early days of the growing season, presenting our wines in international settings, that I'm very much looking forward to returning home to a daytime feast at Barboursville on Sunday, the 5th of June, which will crown a wine partnering we've been honored to enjoy with the American group of the Park Hyatt Masters of Food & Wine annual international tour. Chefs from the San Diego Park Hyatt and Washington's Park Hyatt restaurant, the Blue Duck Tavern - named among the best in Zagat's and Washingtonian's listings of favorite dining places - will meet at Palladio Restaurant, to co-operate with our Chef Melissa Close Hart in a Springtime menu epitomizing the best of the season. Each chef will be entirely responsible for one of the courses, which nevertheless flow together with sympathy for the others, capped by dessert from the Blue Duck Tavern's pastry chef. All courses are to be paired with our most ideal wines for their ingredients and each of the chef's techniques, in one of the most exciting occasions on our annual calendar.
Having traveled last week and the week before, as the sole representative of Virginia wines toThe Wine Spectator's annual Wine Experience in Las Vegas, Chicago, and Boston, I can report to you with great pleasure that our wines were welcomed very respectfully as among the most "European" of the wines produced in North America, which we have seen consistently affirmed since the middle 1990s. Like the Park Hyatt's invitation to its annual tour, The Wine Spectator'sinvitation was entirely unsolicited. I feel the welcome given to Barboursville, from vintners as diverse as First Growth producers in Bordeaux and great growers from the Southern Hemisphere, alike, belongs to all who appreciate Virginia wine and have supported its growth as our friends. I hope we can see you at the Masters of Food & Wine feast on June 5th, and celebrate your participation, along with ours, in the universal passion for fine wine. Give Taz Greer a call at Palladio (540) 832 - 7848, and secure your place at the table, for a really happy occasion.
